Do you get easily influenced by social media and all the healthy eating/living trends? It does get confusing some times, as one day using coconut oil is healthy, the next day in order to survive you have to become a vegan and add avocado and other superfoods to every single meal. I used to get so confused with all the concepts of healthy diet and healthy living until I found out about Bio-Individuality. One person’s food is another person’s poison.
The diet that you are consuming right now might be perfect for you at this right moment, but not a week later. We eat differently throughout the seasons, men and women diets also vary. The job that you are currently in would also influence the food you eat. Stressful office jobs normally lead to a lot of cravings and you will end up eating sugary or salty foods. I do experience this myself and in highly stressful situations I choose processed sugary chocolate bars.
Another important fact is that we have to follow our cravings. Our bodies are created in a way that they heal themselves. If you are craving something, it means your body needs it in order to bring it into the balance. So instead of avoiding it, start listening and following these cravings. If you are experiencing stress at your job everyday, the cravings might not go away and in the long term would cause an imbalance in the body through an increased inflammation. In this case you will have to look at your Primary Foods. Primary Foods are our relationships, career, spirituality and physical activity. If your stress levels at the job are always high you could be eating the latest, healthiest, vegan, paleo, kale diet, but if you Primary Food is out of balance none of these healthy diets would benefit you.
With bio-individuality you have to look at you life, in which the biggest part is taken by your Primary Foods, and see which type of diet would be the most beneficial for you at this moment. If cooking meals, which your mother used to cook brings you back peace, great childhood memories and helps relieve the stress that you have to face at work – do that. In the meantime, looking for ways to manage stress levels at work would also bring the positive change into your diet. Maybe you will decide to quit the job or will find a way to be more productive, so that the stress level could be reduced. This will automatically effect your diet, as being more at peace in work environment would also bring more peace onto your plate. Then you might want to start eating healthy vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian diet, will be craving green juices, smoothie bowls and salads.
Being very assertive about what is going on in your life will make it easier to choose the right food for your body’s needs. Diet should be based on the individual and not the theory. You have to learn to listen to your own body and choose what it needs. When your Primary Food is balanced and satiating it feeds you, making what you eat secondary. Health is a state of overall wellness, which includes physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. So you have to nourish yourself on and of the plate. Modern nutrition tells you that you need to eat certain diets or specific foods. You need to eat what feels right for you and your body, while trying to have a balanced Primary Foods.
